The Cartier Tank: 100+ Years of Timeless Style

The Cartier Tank is my favorite watch. One day, when I can afford it, I will own one. This is not my most unique fashion take. It’s one of the most iconic dress watches ever. Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali, and Ralph Lauren – all well-known wearers of the Tank – would agree. So would Andy Warhol, who famously once said, "I don’t wear a Tank watch to tell the time. Actually, I never even wind it. I wear a Tank because it is the watch to wear!"

Inspired by the FT-17 Renault Tanks used on the Western Front during the First World War, designed by the maison's founder, Louis François Cartier, and worn by many, the Cartier Tank never seems to go out of fashion. Remarkably, the Tank has undergone very little change since its introduction to the world over 100 years ago, a spectacular demonstration of the endurance of its original design, making it truly a timeless piece.
